P. I0 THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2012 THE OSKALOOSA INDEPENDENT II Obituaries Society EUNICE KENISON Eunice "Nadine" Kenison, 89, McLouth, died July 12, 2012, at the F.W. Huston Geriatric Center, Winchester. She was born Feb. 11,1923, at Cha- nute. She is the daughter of Charles John and Signa Elinor Bergsten An- demon. She was a 1940 graduate of Chanute High School. She then attended classes at Emporia State University. She married Fred Le- Roy Kenison Aug. 26, 1942, in Cha- nute. He preceded her in death Jan. 17, 2012. Together they operated K &amp; K Distributors selling and deliver- ing sundry items throughout the state of Kansas. She was also an elementary school teacher for 5 yrs. She was an active parent, working with the PTA in Iola for all of their children. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia"Patty" Ann Peres, Shoreview, Minn., Ju- dith "Judy" Dalton, McLouth, Jeanne Baze, Lawrence, and Anita Douglas, Bentonville, Ark., 15 Grandchildren, and 21 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. A private family burial was held Friday, July 14 at the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo. Memorial donations may be sent to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice, and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 602, Oskaloosa, 66066. Online condolences may be made at www.barnettfamilyfh. com. ARTHUR RItOADES Arthur Ellery Rhoades, 82, McLouth, died at his home and was found July 13, 2012. He was born Jan. 3,1930, in Rich- hill, Mo., the son of Charles Edwin and Ruth Marian McIlrath Rhodes. He was a 1948 graduate of Shawnee Mission Rural High School and then attended Donnelly College in Kansas City for one year. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a general laborer, doing odd jobs in the communities. Survivors include one brother, Roger Rhoades, Shawnee. Cremation is planned with memo- rial services to be announced at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Mr. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Jefferson County North in 2009. She is the daughter of Craig and Tammy Gigstad. Center Place educates, en- tertains with programs The Center Place recently co- sponsored a lunch-and-learn class with the Jefferson County Health Department and Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Aynsley Anderson presented tips on "Eating Healthy on the Run" at the Little Red Barn July 10, emphasizing finding ways to take nutritional food with you or picking healthy alterna- tives to burgers and fries. More ses- sions focused on health will be offered in upcoming months. On July 13, Matt Miller, Oskaloo- sa, entertained Jefferson countians with piano renditions of everything from classical to pop. The Center Place provided ice cream sundaes and floats. County 4-H news Mooney Creek 4-H Club The July 15 meeting of the Mooney Creek 4-H Club began with the yearly 4-H Farm Tour at the Sharps' house. The Nolls, Schricks, Devineys and Hig- gins were present. The Sharp children talked about the vegetables they had planted for the 4-H Fair. The club then went to the Schrick's house where Julie Schrick told every- one about her meat goats, Danny and Jimmy. She explained why Jimmy had only one horn whereas Danny had two. After that Julie showed the group her chickens. The club then met back at the Mooney Creek Church for the monthly meeting with President Bailee Devin- ey presiding. Roll call was answered by 'h'hat is your middle name?" Fourteen members were present. Leader Sarah Noll had information about the fair, which included that the honey judging is Aug. 6. On Aug. 7 the club will serve food at the concession stand from 7-11 p.m. At 5 p.m. Aug. 8, the club will help at the fundraiser meal. The club needs to make a banner for the parade. The committee re- ported that they will be doing the "Go Wild with 4-H" theme for the banner. Julie Schrick had a project talk on her meat goats. Arielle Sharp had a project talk on canning beets. Maggie Sharp had a health and safety talk on lake swimming safety. Bailee Deviney had a demonstration on cheers. Kayla Higgins told why people needed their wisdom teeth out. Kylee Higgins ex- plained how to take care of a rabbit. The meeting ended with song leader Arielle Sharp leading the club in"John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt." Afterwards, the members held a pet- luck lunch. The future groom is the son of Kevin and Connie Kesinger, Lawrence. He is a 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School and is employed by John Rohrer Contracting Co. as a foreman in Kansas City.
